About Christopher D'Avanzo

Chris just didn’t play sports, he lived them.  Growing up, if you walked past Chris’ house, you would hear the steady rhythm of a basketball hitting the pavement. Dribbling wasn’t just practice, it was part of the neighborhood’s soundtrack. Over time his neighbors found comfort listening to the ball bounce for hours. If Chris was not outside practicing, they would wonder if something was wrong. That passion only intensified in high school, where Chris became a three-sport varsity athlete, competing in soccer, basketball, and track. The thrill of competition and the challenge of constant improvement shaped who he is today.

After graduating from Montclair State University,  Chris took the opportunity to give back to the game he loved so much. He was hired as the Head Junior Varsity Basketball Coach at Boonton High School, mentoring young athletes and helping them develop both their skills and confidence on the court. After his first high school season he was given the opportunity to work at the Duke Basketball Camp. For a die hard Duke fan it was the opportunity of a lifetime. Chris was able to  learn from some of the best minds in the sport while refining his ability to teach, strategize, and lead. These experiences reinforced his passion to teach and watch his players succeed.

With a renewed drive to work with athletes, Chris pursued a legal career at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. He did everything he possibly could to remain deeply involved in sports throughout his time at Hofstra. He  served as a student manager for the Hofstra Men’s Basketball Team, where he assisted with scout team activities and game time analytics. Chris also became an E-board member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society where he competed in multiple negotiation competitions.

During his 2L year, Chris discovered a passion for trademark law, a perfect blend of his love for sports and his fascination with how athletes build their brands. With that passion, he sought to learn as much as possible, launching Ball is Law, a podcast dedicated to breaking down the legal side of sports. Chris served as a contributing writer for Conduct Detrimental which sparked a passion for legal content writing. The platform gave him the opportunity to explore how intellectual property impacted sports.

Now, Chris brings the same excitement to helping entrepreneurs, athletes, and law firms protect what they’ve worked so hard to build. He takes pride in helping people protect their identity and legacy whether it is through securing a trademark, creating legal content, or guiding a brand through its next stage.
